Did I mention I went to film school?

If you didn’t know that yet, now you do. I love the idea of putting a series of images together and telling a story. I have done work behind the camera and in front of it. Personally I prefer being behind it. I love editing, I can’t explain why but I love editing. It would drive most people absolutely nuts sitting in front of a computer and watching the same thing over and over trying to nail down the pacing. Looking at what shots should go where and how long they should be to keep with the flow of the piece. In my brain it is fun. My wife says she doesn’t understand how I can do it (she watched me do it once). It is an art form, it is subjective. However, I do think that there are good editors and bad editors. Michael Khan is probably my top inspiration when it comes to editing, he gets it. Michael doesn’t interfere in the story, he drives it. You have seen his movies and probably don’t even know it. Don’t believe me, check out his IMDB page.

Anyway, I am getting my Video section built and would love comments and feedback on my own work. Check it out.

What have I done?

Well, in my wild experimenting with this site today I managed to take the whole thing down, cause a problem at the hosting company and I became generally frustrated with my website.

I’m better now. I learned what not to do with my site today. I was experimenting with tons of plug-ins and managed to get the site into a non-functional mode. Luckily I exported my blogs before I really blew up the front-end of the site. Many hours and phone calls later all is well.

It is amazing to me how much of my time a spend now thinking about what I want on my site and my excitement about writing these blogs. There is just something different when it is “my” site vs a page on Facebook or MySpace (you can find me in those too).

Most of all I want my site to reflect me, perhaps I just haven’t had to do deep soul searching in a while. So, here I am soul searching, writing, listening. What have I done? I’ve given myself a much needed outlet. Now, I just need to be careful with it.

I wasn’t the only one that liked ‘Fast & Furious’

This is a follow up to my last post about ‘Fast & Furious’. All I can say is that when a movie makes this much opening weekend it had a much larger appeal than just to car guys like me. Not only did it destroy some box office records it landed somewhere in the realm of an opening weekend for ‘Spiderman’. If Iwas a betting man, I would bet we see part five with Paul and Vin again.

‘Fast & Furious’ Worth the Ride

My best friend, Brian, and I are both gearheads of one form or another. We both enjoy movies with cool cars, big chases, awesome stunts and a decent story. Together we have explored various “car” movies; Ronin, Gone in 60 Seconds, Transporter, and The Fast and the Furious, to name a few. Let me say that ‘The Fast and the Furious’ (the first one) caught me at a time when I was just out of high school, making my own money and buying my own cars. I saw that movie and was introduced on a much larger scale a sub-culture that I had just barely become familiar with on my own. “Street Racing.” Continue reading “‘Fast & Furious’ Worth the Ride”

It’s like a new toy…

I am not sure I should be quite this excited about finally having my website up, but I can’t help myself. I have been sitting on this domain for years with the intent of doing this one day. Well, here it is, here I am, and here I go. Hopefully as I develop this site it will provide us both with some laughs, tears and whatever else can come out of the blogosphere. My commitment to this right now is trying to write something every one to three days to start. I wouldn’t consider myself a writer by any stretch but I do like to write. I am a coder, I am a musician, I am a husband and a father, I am a gearhead and a movie junkie. As a former film student I am into movies of all kinds with sci-fi and action at the top of my list. I do work as a freelance graphic designer and web developer and will be getting some of my favorite creations up here soon enough. I invite you to join me on this journey, should be an interesting ride.
